"Fighting With My Family" (2019) ★★★★
Kids, use your w̶o̶r̶d̶s̶ arms and choke each other out- lovingly.
I saw this in theaters on a rainy Tuesday in a town in which I do not live. Not sure if it was the brilliant casting, the script, the “based on a real story“ disclaimer, me being away from home, or some combination of it all but I REALLY enjoyed this movie. The Knights are a family of “misfits“ who have a family dynamic any of us should strive for. They are just wonderful. Vince Vaughn is fantastic here. He’s just aging super well into the “hard-but-fair loving dad” vibe. And my GOD; that wink.
It’s also really worth noting that this movie cares about its auxiliary characters. Even the bleach blonde cheerleader/dancer girls are given some backstory to make them real people, which, in (at least my perception of) the world of wrestling is quite refreshing.
Oh AND we have a satisfying sibling rivalry arc?!
